It’s already April?

I don’t know about you but I’m patiently awaiting the spring weather we had last week!

We all know what the gorgeous Spring and Summer weather means though = Less Clothes

Instead of the bulky winter sweaters we will soon be wearing shorts and tank tops.

To help everyone feel more confident in their clothes I wanted to share some more Weight Loss Tips.

Let’s talk about Calories

Many of our lives center around calories but do we even know what it is?

By definition, a calorie is the energy it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius. The important word to take away from this definition is ENERGY. Calories are ENERGY that fuel our bodies; much like gasoline fuels our cars.

But not all calories are created equal.

Some of us eat 200 calorie FroYos and think we are being healthier than eating a 400 calorie Avocado.  But this couldn’t be more wrong!   Although double the calories- Avocados are much better and nutritionally dense for our bodies.

Did you know when you lose weight as in pounds, you lose fat as well as muscle?

Scientists suggest this where the “yo yo” cycle happens in dieting, we lose weight only to regain it again. This is because losing muscle means losing metabolism and energy. Shaklee scientists have perfected the amount of leucine that we need to spare the muscle when we lose the weight with Shaklee shakes, Cinch Meal Bars and Cinch snack bars. We have a ton of success stories using this program : Cinch Club

From now until April 31, there are some specials that can help you lose the weight and keep the Muscle.

You can Order here!

I’m excited to announce that in 2 weeks (April 16)- I am starting a teleseminar group for people who want to

Reboot your Body for the Beach”

Don’t be afraid of those tank top that show your upper arms or shorts that show off your thighs.  My ‘modified detox’ will help you lose the unwanted weight while helping restore and cleanse your body.  For this program I will be teaching you about certain foods that are nutritionally dense and certain supplements that will help support your body. The combination of the 2 will cleanse your liver, repair your digestive system and enhances immune function.

Here’s a preview of  two supplements in the program:

Optiflora Prebiotic Complex

Liver DTX Complex

These supplements (along with a few others) and a nutritionally dense food program will help you whittle that middle and be saying:

Bring on the warm weather baby!

There are so many people that constantly have stomach aches and just ignore them.

Wouldn’t you rather feel great and ready to rock everyday instead of boggled down and in pain?

There is a solution!

In my 40s- I thought I was really kicking butt.  I was teaching fitness classes 4 days a week and on the outside I looked great.  However- I was really exhausted and started having daily stomach pains (even after I was eating food that is suppose to be good for me! )

What was going wrong?!

I was eating healthy- salads, strawberries, and broccoli but was still feeling pains.

I decided to deconstruct my life to find out what was going on.

What was I not eating right?  What did I need to do differently?

I wanted my Zest for life back. And lucky for you I now know the secret and want to share it with everyone!

1) STRESS! The first thing for me was to focus on stress.  I decided to be more conscious of my days.

How did I start my day ?  Did I jump out of bed and into life?  And the answer was Yes, Yes, and Yes.  I would wake up and jump out of bed and start moving right away.  I started to take 20 minutes for myself every morning before I started my busy routine.  (This meant waking up a bit earlier but man was it worth it!)  Every morning I now set intentions for the day ahead.  I take 10 minutes and focus on my breathing—breathe in for 5 and exhale for 10 seconds.  I also make sure I’m having a balanced breakfast to start my day right.  (I love Shaklee’s Vanilla Cinch Shake! It helps to balance out my blood sugar and it really effects my digestion, and energy.)

2) DIET!  The second thing I did was monitor my diet.  I went on an elimination diet and incorporated Shaklee supplements to support my body.  I spend a week removing dairy and wrote down how I felt.  I spent a week eliminating gluten and wrote down how I felt.  I spent a week eliminating sugar and wrote down how I felt.  Removing certain foods gave me more energy and helped me think clearer.

I also added a variety of fruits and vegetables into my diet.  Although I was eating healthy I was grabbing the same fruits (strawberries!) and vegetable (broccoli!) I realized I needed a variety.

I also realized how important supplementation was.  I’m not going to be 100% perfect so supplementing helps me balance my body and get all the vitamin and nutrients my body needs.

A recent study showed that 90% of Americans are lacking key nutrients in their diets; moreover common factors such as stress and aging can increase the body’s need for essential vitamins and minerals.

I recommend that everyone takes a Shaklee Vitalizer Strip everyday!  This alone helped me so much with my stomach pains.  The pack includes:

-Vita-Lea Advanced Multivitamin

-B + C Complex

-Caroto-E-Omega

-Optiflora Probiotic

Everything you need for proper digestion.

After focusing on my daily intentions (setting up a morning routine), eating a variety of foods, and taking supplements I now look AND feel my best!

As I’ve written about in my previous post, What’s your Heart’s Desire?, I had a heart scare in my mid-20s.  I was a stressed out professional (Nursing) and not treating my body right (hello coffee, brownies, working late nights, always on the go with no time to relax.)

Since then, I have turned my life around and realized I need to learn to take time for myself and slow down.   Slowing down helped me realize my passions for business and helping other professionals find a balance.

Although I’d love to sit here and boast about how my life is now perfect- the reality is I still have to remind myself to take a deep breath and slow down.

I’m still really passionate about my work and always on the go- meeting here, project there, conference here, phone lecture there.  I often have to remind myself that life isn’t all about work- I can relax and enjoy down time also.

I find myself getting stressed about being perfect which often causes pain and tension in my jaw, back of my shoulder, and neck.

Many of us don’t realize how much effect stress has on our bodies.  In order to combat this stress I started taking Shaklee’s Stress Relieve Complex and also meditating.  Both of these things have really helped me slow down and become less anxious.

Click for more info: (( http://bit.ly/dYtcde))

When you are stressed your body releases a lot of cortisol which causes your body to become burnt out.  Shaklee’s Stress Relieve Complex helps balance out your cortisol levels and helps your body get out of the ‘flight’ mode.

My friend asked me once, ‘Donde esta el fuego?’ Which translates ‘Where’s the fire?’  I loved this quote!  As Americans, especially New Yorkers, we are always striving to be the best and constantly on the go.

My message this week is- remember to breathe and take time for yourself.

There’s no fire.  We can stop running.

Our heart will thank us for this.

Happy Valentines’ Day Everyone!

I hope your heart is full of  love for yourself too.

We can feel and get love in everything we do.

As I’ve written about in previous posts, Is your Body Image Holding you Back , learning to love my body has been a life long challenge and goal for me.

I am now at the point where I love and appreciate being healthy and fit but it wasn’t always like this.

I’ve always gotten a ‘natural high’ from things like dancing ballet and tai chi.  Movement has always been an important part of my life.  Still to this day, knowing and feeling my body move is awesome and I feel my best when I’m fit, lose, and flexible.  I’ve always been in tune with my body’s feelings which is which I decided to go into Nursing early in my career.

When we are young we tend to think that we are invincible.  When I was a nurse in my 20s I was in great shape (working out/movement wise) so you can imagine my surprise when I started to have heart palpitations.  It was discovered that I had a heart murmur.  It wasn’t immediately life threatening but it was scary and an eye opener!

It changed the way I looked at my life and current EATING habits.  I realized I only had half of the battle.  I needed to learn to love myself more and take care of my body through the food I was eating. (One can only survive on brownies for so long!)

It was then I decided to take my health into my own hands and show my body how much I loved and appreciated it.

Here are some of the changes I added into my Diet/Lifestyle:

1. I stop drinking coffee.   I know, you live off your coffee, but I promice you- you’ll survive without it!  Actually more than survive- you will feel much better without it!  Trust me- try it for a week or 2.  I replaced my daily coffee with a Shaklee Cinch shake and Shaklee Cinch Energy tea.

We all get into habits.  Many of us have a habit of sipping coffee and these wonderful Shaklee products can help us continue the sipping that we love.  Eliminating coffee from my life helped me become less anxious and sleep better at nights.

2.  I stopped having desserts for lunch and dinner.   It started out with my need to have a dessert after my meal (I blame my upbringing! haha) And a dessert after each meal (including breakfast) eventually led to only eating dessert.  I would survive on brownies at the hospital!  Dessert was also a way to reward myself.  Instead of grabbing for something sweet I changed my habit to eat a Shaklee Cinch Bar.  Instead of the sugar rush this bar provides vitamins and nutrients to help me have energy for the rest of the day- not to mention it also tasted delicious!

3. I started to pay attention to when I was getting tired and began to pace myself better.  I learned to focus on breathing techniques and not get too stressed about anything particular thing.  Life will go on.

4.  In addition to my Ballet and Tai Chi I started going to yoga once a week.  Yoga was another great way for me to pace myself better with meditation and breath.

And the good new is……It worked!  The palpitations stopped and now that I am in my 50’s I continue to use the steps I started then.  These 4 Steps have helped me have a successful, healthy, and happy life.   It’s the simple things like learning to love and appreciate your body.

Loving yourself is  the best gift  you can ever give yourself (and others!)  My hubby sure appreciates my body and the love that I give it.

xo

Cheers!

Hey guys!

As I discussed last week in my post: Is your Body Image Holding you back?, my goal for the next 2 months is to set myself up so I feel confident in my bathing suit for my trip to Mexico.

One of the main obstacles towards this is: I’m a foodie!  I LOVE food.

I’m Italian and food has always been an important part of my life.  Every day I look forward to preparing meals or going out to nice dinners with my husband or friends.  I’m lucky to live in such a lovely city like NYC where I’m exposed to the best varieties of food on a daily basis!  How can I say no?!

The issue is to find the line.

It’s not a bad thing that I love food.  I just need to learn to make smarter choices if I’m going to lose weight in the next 2 months.

Losing weight is not just about looking and feeling good.  Having extra weight on your body is a risk factor for all the major diseases and can ruin the active zestful life I am living.

It’s important to realize that you are in control of your journey.  Enjoy Life.  Go out to Eat.  Laugh with friends and family.  Just know your limit and remember moderation!

You are in the driver’s seat.  The purpose of this weeks webinar-  “2012 Change Begins, best year ever”  is to teach you the proper tools to ‘stay on the road.’

Here’s some Tips that I will be focusing on:

-Make one habit change per week :  Each week we talk(webinar) about food and the habits we have around the foods.  A habit I suggest is to add a daily smoothie into your morning routine.    This will help reduce the impact stress has on the body while adding protein, enhanced leucine,  and fiber.  A daily smoothie will help fuel your body and help get your day off to a great start.  I suggest to try Shaklee’s Cinch Shake–See how “smoothly” the rest of your day can go ; )

- Have a Routine:  Create menus for the week when you eat at home and know how many nights you will be eating out.  Here’s my tip for when you eat out: don’t scarf down your food like you’ve never seen food before.  Eat slowly and realize this is just a meal to nourish your body.    To slow myself down I think of they lovely food I’m eating (for example I was eating a delicious dish with pumpkin squash yesterday) and I started to think about how I could incorporate that new veggie into my home meals for next week.  It become a game and fun project. I came up with the idea of a pumpkin squash casserole which with vegetable broth and 4 or 5 vegetables that everyone loved!

-Don’t let yourself feel deprived.  If you really want to eat something when you are out suggest you and your friend split it and try just a bite.  If you don’t let yourself have a particular item this will just come to haunt you!  Realize you are in control of your choices and chose to be healthy and want to nourish your body with the best foods possible.

Implementing these changes into your daily life will put you in the driver’s seat and help you lose weight and love your body!

We can do it together.

Or maybe private individual coaching is more your thing (I do this also!)

Cheers!

Mine used to!

In March I am going to Oaxaca, Mexico with my husband.  My husband is an artist and is showing his work there. I am extremely excited but also a little anxious.

Warm weather= Beach= Bathing suit= Ahh!

No bulky sweaters in Mexico to cover winter weight-full exposure!

In the past, I was extremely judgmental of my body. I would look in the mirror and only see flaws.

My belly was too big, my arms were jiggly, and I couldn’t fit into my summer jeans. Oy vey!

As I’ve gotten older (and wiser!) I’ve learned to approach my weight journey with love and respect for my body shape instead of harsh criticism.

I accept and love my body (I have great curves!) and my focus is now to live a healthy life.

Here are a few steps you can follow to learn to stop judging yourself and love your body:

1. To begin, all the critical judgment I was doing to myself became like a war in my body and the war only caused more stress and tension.

I am helping reduce this tension by meditating. Every night I set time aside for myself to meditate. Starting from my feet I tense and release my muscles. As I release each body part, I appreciate it. For example– I inhale and tense both feet for a few seconds and then release. As I release I say my feet are wonderful they allow me to take long walks on the streets of new York.

The when I get to my belly- Tense that area, Release it and say, I am so happy that my belly allows me to digest all the good food I love so I have energy to enjoy my life and so on.

Breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Start with your feet and end with your face.

2. Body love part two, Don’t fight ! Look at what has worked for you in the past. Avoid the word ‘should’ word. For me, I don’t have time or desire to cook 3 meals a day- and I have learned this through experience.

In the past using the Cinch program, two shakes a day, a snack, and a dinner has worked well in my busy life. I find I have a lot of energy and I don’t have the highs and low that blood sugar bouncing causes me. When I measure my waist after 2 weeks, I see the inches coming off. The Cinch program makes my life a lot easier!

Cinch

I am teaching a group tele-seminar from  January 17 to March 6.  This seminar will cover tools and techniques to get the body you want by learning to love it.

It’s not too late to sign up.  Members of the class receive a discount on all Cinch products!

Email me if you are interested: dianamaltz@gmail.com

Wearing a bathing suit and traveling are great incentives to lose weight but it is more important to learn to enjoy and love my body whatever size it is.

Cheers!
