I’m excited to share with you guys that I will be traveling to Copenhagen, Denmark next week!

Traveling is a passion of mine but it’s often hard to keep up your good habits!  When you travel- All of you meals come from restaurants, there are always new foods and wines to tryout, and usually a lot less exercising.

Do I let go and have fun but lose progress I have made?

Hell no!

I am committed to making my changes not just about ‘diet’ or ‘losing  weight’  but actual LIFE changes.

I can’t emphasize enough how important this is.  It’s the reason most diets fail!  Diets don’t work.  Changing your bad habits do.  Of course I’m not suggesting to do this in one day- it takes time.

To make sure I stay on track I am bringing Packets of Shaklee’s Cinch Shakes with me!  Every morning I will make myself a shake which will give me the right nutrients and energy for the day ahead.  (( Not to mention these shakes help with Jet Lag!  I’ll be on a plane for 7 lovely hours next to my handsome husband.))

I’m also bringing my Shaklee Energy Chews.  They contain green tea and are a quite convenient to keep my energy up and appetite low.

For Dinner I will start with a small salad with lots of Veggies and water (to help fill myself up)  Then I will eat whatever I want! The key is just to have half (luckily it won’t go to waste because my generous husband will take care of it!)

For exercise- I will rent bikes and tour the city or walk everywhere!

One of the biggest challenges of eating healthy is removing sugar and empty-calorie snacks from our diet!  (I’m there with you too!)   Sugar and empty calories are everywhere… in soda, candy, coffee, ice teas, juice, chips, pretzels, etc

Many of these foods cause your blood sugar to spike and then plummet.  This creates fluctuating blood sugars which usually leads to cravings and binging.

You might be often thinking- ‘If only I had the will power to not snack!’   But it’s important to realize that such sugar cravings are not only about will power alone.  They are about metabolic imbalance which creates cravings for sugar and carbohydrate snacks.

I’m not here to give you an excuse for your afternoon snacks or sweets binging- I’m saying that you need to realize this is unhealthy and take responsibility to set yourself up for success.

Sugar is the main causes for many diseases and illuminating or cutting your intake will have a positive effect on your life

Short term- It can help with your mood swing, aches and pains, foggy thinking

Long Term- Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes- all the main causes of death!

Here are some of my Suggestions to eliminate these Cravings:

-Take a B-Complex.  This isn’t called the ‘Happy Vitamin’ for no reason.  It helps you balance your mood by creating a slower-steady release of energy- instead of a sugar/carb spike.

Sweet September

Fall is almost here… September is one of my favorite months- maybe it’s the ‘back to school’ mentality but I always feel as though it’s a great time to try new things and set new goals (not to mention a new Fall wardrobe!)

Speaking of wardrobe I found this great quote by Ani Phyo:

“Food is the most intimate thing you can buy…Unlike clothes and shoes that dress the outside, food goes into your body and builds who you become.”

A lot of us are constantly worried about our outward appearance. We want to look good and dress well but we are missing the main point. We should be more concerned with changing our habits and our ‘insides’ which in turn will positively affect our appearance. Many of us need to care more about what we put in our bodies because food is our fuel for life energy. Food affects how you think, your stamina, strength, passion, and hormones- it really affects everything!

This September I suggest we all start being more conscious of our relationship to food!

Here’s a few suggestions to start some New Positive Goals:

-Instead of mindlessly eating sweets have healthy options (like fruit or Shaklee’s Cinch Snack Bar) available. Don’t even buy those cookies! If you are really craving them buy one not a whole pack.

-Look at the quality of the food you are eating- not calories! For example, that frozen ice cream that you love is only ‘150 calories’ but they are empty calories. -Be conscious of what you are eating. Don’t be so strict where you are not allowing yourself to eat anything- try things! See how your body reacts and go from there. For example- when I eat a bagel (even a whole wheat one) I feel really bloated, dense, and tired. For some people this whole wheat bagel can be great but for me it’s not.

-Eat more foods that are low glycemic (they don’t raise the blood sugar too high.)  High glycemic foods lead to inflammation and chronic problems.
