Exercising and starting a new workout routine can be challenging. Summer and warm weather can help motivate us to get outside and moving but with these new routines we run into some challenges. I often find my muscles are quite sore after a work out!
I have been enjoying this beautiful weather and worked out 5 days last week. My body is not used to it and I became really sore. It was hard for me to lift my arms to wash my hair or even get dressed. Although I felt accomplished and great in my mind my muscles were really stiff.
I started doing some research on ‘muscle soreness’ and found out that this is a common thing. Rick Sharp, a professor of exercise physiology at Iowa State University, stated: ”Muscles go through quite a bit of physical stress when we exercise.” When we work out we accumulate lactic acid in the muscles. Lactic acid is a normal byproduct of muscle metabolism but can irritate muscles and cause discomfort and soreness. Soreness is also caused by small tears in the muscle fibers. This is a good sign and means we on the right track but can be pretty painful.
After my week of working out I decided to use some of Shaklee’s Products:

1) Make sure to Warm-up before and stretch after a work out
2) Proper Nutrition! I can’t emphasize this enough- if your body is not getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients it cannot recover well. (Supplements help with this! And don’t be ashamed- it’s almost impossible to get everything we need in 1 day!)
3) Rest if you need to! Don’t push your body- if you need to take a day off take a day off!
